Hi guys, my name is Emma and I am a 20-year-old
classic movie fan from Brisbane, Australia. I am currently studying Journalism
at university but when I grow up (and invent a time machine) I want to be a
famous movie star like Bette Davis or Jean Harlow. My first classic movie
experience wasn’t with a very famous or very technically good film, but when I saw
‘Blackbeard’s Ghost’ (1968) with the hilarious Peter Ustinov I was hooked. I
slowly moved onto ‘The Parent Trap’ (1961) with Hayley Mills and the glorious
films of Marilyn Monroe. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I found Precode.
I stumbled across ‘She Done Him Wrong’ when looking for a relaxing comedy to
pass the time and loved Mae West’s witty banter and frank discussions on sex.
Again I was hooked and Precode films stuck in my brain and on my DVD shelf.
A note on my profile picture:
I wish it was me, but my profile picture is of the
tragic and beautiful, Evelyn Nesbit. She was born December 25, 1884 and is notorious not
only for her small silent film career, famous paintings and photographs of her,
a short relationship with John Barrymore but being the motive for the murder of
her well-known lover by her husband. I choose her because of her strength and mesmerising
beauty and, if you squint and dim the lights I kind of resemble her.
Great site. We have a monthly Pre-Code feature on ours too
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ill be sure to have a look at your Precode features as well!!!

Hi Emma
ReplyDeleteGreat site, but it's Let's Misbehave. Hope you don't mind me pointing it out.
Come on Emma, stop misbehaving and put the apostrophe in (as above).
ReplyDeleteYou know what happens to naughty girls.
Otherwise an excellent blog, well done.
Haha. I noted it before you pointed it out the first time. I am meaning to fix it, give me a little time!! I know as a blog writer it probably affects my credibility, I am intending to change it :) Thanks for your comments and reminding me.
Deletelove your site Emma!! so detailed and wonderful to read!! I thought as a HUGE classic film buff I knew all there was to know about the golden age until I started reading your blog! I have also just started discovering Pre-Code, and I am utterly hooked!!! can't wait to read more of your site!! best wishes, Fiona x
ReplyDeleteLove pre-code film, just watched "Imitation of Life" this morning with Claudette Colbert, Warren William and Louise Beavers. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Was googling some info on Marion Davies when I discovered your blog, I look forward to catching up! I live on Martha's Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts and have studied classic film since I was a about twelve.
